At some point, it becomes loaded with soot &#8211; the vehicle then tries to burn off the soot through <strong>regeneration<\/strong> (simplified: &#8220;burn it off&#8221;). ADAC cites city traffic\/short journeys as a typical cause when the filter is clogged with soot. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-abgebrochene-regeneration\">Aborted regeneration<\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some drivers hardly notice it: the car starts a regeneration, but you turn it off (e.g. after 8 minutes of driving). A professional procedure typically consists of several steps (cleaning + controlled processes + measurement\/record). <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>This is how professional DPF cleaning typically works:<\/strong><br\/>First, soot and ash residues are removed using a multi-stage process (e.g. wet and\/or thermal, depending on the provider). Frequent reasons: Regeneration has been interrupted, there is a secondary fault (e.g. sensors\/AGR), or the filter is more heavily loaded &#8211; sometimes with ash that cannot be &#8220;burned free&#8221;. In this case, the only thing that usually helps is to read out the fault memory and carry out a specific check.
